Unit 1- The Internet and Other Addictions.
An addiction can be defined as an inability to stop doing or using
something, especially something harmful. It is a condition in which a person
engages in the use of a substance or in a behavior without thinking in the
detrimental consequences. Addiction may involve the use of substances such as
alcohol, cocaine, nicotine, and others, or behaviors such as gambling.
Nowadays, the excessive use of the Internet has become an addiction. It is a behavioral addiction in which a person becomes dependent on use of the
Internet, or other online devices. People with this condition may have
health situations and social problems, for example, they feel isolated and sometimes
depressive.
